Jump Rope

Jump rope is a rhythmic cardiovascular activity performed by repeatedly jumping over a swinging rope. It develops aerobic fitness, coordination, foot and ankle endurance, and lower-leg conditioning. It can support warm-ups, calorie expenditure, and general cardiovascular fitness.

Instructions

  1. Choose the rope length: Stand on the middle of the rope; the handles should reach roughly armpit height.
  2. Set your position: Stand tall with feet close together, knees softly bent, and elbows held near your ribs.
  3. Turn the rope with your wrists: Keep your hands slightly in front of your hips and use small wrist circles rather than large arm swings.
  4. Jump lightly: As the rope approaches your feet, hop just high enough for it to pass beneath you, landing softly on the balls of your feet.
  5. Maintain a steady rhythm: Keep your torso upright, look forward, and breathe continuously. Start with short intervals and rest when your form deteriorates.

Technique tips

  1. Keep jumps low: Excessive jump height increases fatigue and impact without helping the rope clear.
  2. Stay relaxed: Avoid shrugging your shoulders or gripping the handles too tightly.
  3. Use a suitable surface: Choose a clear, level surface with some cushioning, and wear supportive footwear.
