Kettlebell Turkish Get-Up Lunge

The kettlebell Turkish get-up lunge is a controlled floor-to-standing movement that includes a half-kneeling lunge transition while holding a kettlebell overhead. It develops shoulder stability, core control, hip and leg strength, balance, and whole-body coordination. It supports functional strength and controlled movement under load.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up: Lie on your back with the kettlebell beside one shoulder. Roll toward it, grip the handle with both hands, then roll back and press it above the working-side shoulder.
  2. Rise to the hand: Bend the working-side knee, keep that foot planted, and extend the free arm about 45 degrees from your body. Drive through the planted foot to roll onto the opposite elbow, then straighten that arm to sit tall.
  3. Move into the lunge: Lift the hips, sweep the free leg underneath, and place its knee below the hip. Rotate upright into a half-kneeling lunge while keeping the kettlebell stacked over the shoulder and a straight arm.
  4. Stand and return: Drive through the front foot to stand, then reverse every step slowly back to the floor. Keep your eyes on the kettlebell during the early stages and never rush the transitions.

Technique tips

  1. Start light: Use a load you can hold steadily overhead throughout every position.
  2. Stack the joint: Keep the wrist neutral and the kettlebell, elbow, and shoulder aligned rather than letting the arm drift.
  3. Own each position: Pause briefly at the elbow, hand, bridge, and half-kneeling positions before moving on.
