Machine Kneeling Leg Curl

The machine kneeling leg curl is an isolation exercise performed one leg at a time on a dedicated leg-curl machine. It primarily trains the hamstrings through knee flexion, with the glutes assisting to stabilize the hip. It supports hamstring strength, balanced lower-body development, and controlled knee-flexion mechanics.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Adjust the machine so the knee pad supports your working thigh and the roller pad rests just above the back of your ankle.
  2. Set the load, place one knee on the pad, brace your torso against the support, and hold the handles securely.
  3. Keep your hips square and your working thigh firmly against the pad; begin with the working knee nearly straight without forcing it into lockout.
  4. Exhale and curl your heel toward your glute by bending only the knee. Pause briefly when you reach a controlled end range.
  5. Inhale and lower the roller slowly until the knee is nearly straight. Complete the repetitions, then repeat on the other side.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the hip still: do not twist or lift the working hip to move the weight.
  2. Use a controlled tempo: avoid swinging the roller or letting the weight stack slam.
  3. Choose a manageable load: reduce resistance if you cannot keep the thigh on the pad throughout the set.
  4. Keep the range comfortable: stop before any sharp pain or forced knee extension.
