Toe Touch Stretch

The standing toe touch stretch is a forward bend performed from standing to lengthen the hamstrings and calves. It also gently mobilizes the lower back and can support flexibility, recovery, and comfortable hip-hinge movement.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Start tall with feet about hip-width apart, knees soft, and arms relaxed by your sides.
  2. Hinge at the hips and slowly fold forward, allowing your head and arms to relax toward your feet.
  3. Reach only as far as comfortable toward your toes, shins, or ankles; keep a small bend in the knees if the backs of your legs feel overly tight.
  4. Hold the stretch while breathing slowly and evenly, keeping the movement relaxed rather than forcing a deeper position.
  5. Return gradually by bending your knees slightly and rolling or hinging back to standing with control.

Technique tips

  1. Prioritize the hip hinge rather than rounding aggressively through the lower back.
  2. Keep the knees softly bent if needed; touching the toes is not required for an effective stretch.
  3. Do not bounce at the bottom position. Use calm breathing and a gentle, steady hold.
  4. Come up slowly to avoid feeling light-headed after holding the forward bend.
