Weight Plate Neck Flexion Supine

Supine Weight Plate Neck Flexion is a controlled neck-strengthening exercise performed lying on your back with a light weight plate supported against the forehead. It primarily targets the neck flexors and can help develop neck strength and control when performed with a small range of motion and conservative loading.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Lie on your back on a flat bench with your head near the end so it can move freely; keep your shoulders supported.
  2. Hold a very light weight plate flat against your forehead with both hands throughout the exercise.
  3. Begin with your head in a neutral position, chin neither lifted nor forced toward the chest.
  4. Slowly tuck the chin and flex the neck a short distance, lifting the head without lifting the shoulders or rounding the upper body.
  5. Pause briefly, then slowly return to neutral while maintaining control of the plate.
  6. Stop if you feel pain, dizziness, numbness, or unusual discomfort, and use only a load you can fully control.

Technique tips

  1. Start lighter than expected. Neck muscles need gradual exposure to resistance.
  2. Keep the movement small and smooth; do not jerk the head or use momentum.
  3. Keep both hands on the plate so it cannot shift, and do not let it press heavily into the forehead.
  4. Exhale gently as you flex the neck and keep the shoulders relaxed on the bench.
