Bicep Stretch

The biceps stretch is a gentle upper-body stretch performed by extending the arms behind the body to lengthen the front of the upper arms. It primarily targets the biceps and can also open the chest and front of the shoulders. It supports shoulder mobility, postural comfort, and recovery after upper-body training.

Instructions

  1. Stand tall with your feet about hip-width apart and your ribs stacked over your pelvis.
  2. Reach both arms behind your body and interlace your fingers, keeping the elbows as straight as is comfortable.
  3. Turn the palms slightly away from your body and gently draw the knuckles down and back.
  4. Lift the chest lightly without arching the lower back, allowing the shoulders to move back and down.
  5. Hold the stretch while breathing steadily, stopping before numbness, tingling, or sharp pain occurs.
  6. Release slowly, relax the arms, and repeat only if the stretch remains comfortable.

Technique tips

  1. Use gentle tension: a mild pull through the front of the upper arms is sufficient; do not force the range.
  2. Keep the ribs controlled: avoid turning the stretch into a lower-back arch.
  3. Breathe slowly and relax the neck rather than shrugging the shoulders upward.
  4. If clasping the hands is uncomfortable, hold the hands close together behind the body without forcing the grip.
