Resistance Sled Push

The resistance sled push involves driving a weighted sled forward across a clear, flat surface. It primarily trains the quadriceps, glutes, and calves while demanding trunk bracing and cardiovascular effort. It supports lower-body strength, work capacity, acceleration mechanics, and conditioning.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Load the sled with a manageable resistance and check that the lane ahead is clear and level.
  2. Set your position behind the sled with both hands on the handles, feet about hip-width apart, and arms straight but not locked.
  3. Lean forward from the ankles so your body forms a firm diagonal line; brace your abdomen and keep your spine neutral.
  4. Drive the sled forward with short, powerful steps, pushing through the balls of the feet while keeping the hips low and steady.
  5. Finish under control at the planned distance, slow down before stopping, then rest before the next effort. Do not push into people, obstacles, or an unstable surface.

Technique tips

  1. Choose the load conservatively. Use a resistance that allows a stable torso angle and consistent steps for the full distance.
  2. Keep the hips from rising. If your hips lift or your back rounds, reduce the load or shorten the distance.
  3. Breathe continuously. Brace the trunk, but avoid holding your breath for the entire push.
  4. Use an appropriate surface. Friction changes the resistance substantially, so adjust the load when changing flooring.
