Cable Crunch Rotation

The cable crunch rotation is a kneeling cable exercise that combines spinal flexion with controlled trunk rotation. It primarily trains the abdominals and obliques while helping build core strength and rotational control.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set the pulley high and attach a rope handle. Select a light load that lets you rotate without pulling your hips out of position.
  2. Kneel facing the cable stack a short distance from the pulley, holding both rope ends beside your head. Keep your hips over your heels and brace your abdomen.
  3. Start tall through the torso with your chest lifted, elbows bent, and arms fixed in position; do not pull the handle down with your arms.
  4. Crunch down and rotate your rib cage toward one side, bringing the elbow on that side toward the opposite thigh. Keep the movement smooth and let the pelvis remain stable.
  5. Pause briefly at the bottom while exhaling, then slowly return to the tall starting position under control.
  6. Complete the planned repetitions on one side, then perform the same number on the other side. Stop if the movement causes sharp pain or you cannot keep your hips stable.

Technique tips

  1. Move from the ribs, not the arms. Keep the rope close to your head and maintain a consistent elbow bend throughout the repetition.
  2. Keep the hips quiet. Do not twist the knees or shift the pelvis to create extra range of motion.
  3. Use a controlled tempo. Exhale during the crunch and rotation, and resist the cable as you return.
  4. Prioritize range you can control. Reduce the load or range if your lower back arches excessively or your torso jerks upward.
