Cable Rotation Stability Ball

Cable Rotation on Stability Ball is a seated core exercise in which you rotate your torso against cable resistance while maintaining balance on a stability ball. It primarily trains the obliques and other abdominal muscles, while the hips and trunk stabilizers help keep the body steady. It supports rotational core strength, balance, and controlled trunk stability.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set the cable to about chest height and attach a single handle. Choose a light resistance that allows smooth, controlled rotation.
  2. Sit tall on the stability ball beside the cable stack with feet flat and about hip-width apart. Hold the handle with both hands, arms comfortably extended toward the pulley.
  3. Brace your abdomen and keep your hips facing forward. Slowly rotate your rib cage and shoulders away from the pulley without leaning, bouncing, or shifting your feet.
  4. Return with control to the starting position, resisting the pull of the cable. Complete all repetitions on one side, then turn around and repeat equally on the other side.

Technique tips

  1. Prioritize control over load. A heavy cable can pull you off the ball and shift the movement away from the abdominals.
  2. Rotate through the torso, not the hips. Keep both feet planted and avoid using momentum from the legs.
  3. Exhale during the rotation and return slowly. Stop or reduce the range if you cannot stay balanced and upright.
