Cable Rope Hammer Curl

The cable rope hammer curl is an isolation exercise performed on a low cable pulley with a rope attachment and a neutral grip. It primarily trains the biceps and brachialis while also working the forearms. The constant cable resistance can support arm strength and muscle development.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up the cable. Attach a rope handle to a low pulley and select a manageable load.
  2. Take position. Stand tall facing the pulley, feet about hip-width apart, and hold the rope ends with palms facing each other. Start with your arms extended and the cable under tension.
  3. Stabilize. Keep your chest up, shoulders down, elbows close to your sides, and wrists neutral.
  4. Curl upward. Bend your elbows to bring the rope ends toward your shoulders without moving your upper arms forward. Exhale as you curl.
  5. Lower with control. Squeeze briefly at the top, then inhale and return slowly until the elbows are nearly straight. Do not let the weight stack slam down.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the elbows fixed. Swinging the torso or allowing the elbows to drift forward shifts work away from the elbow flexors.
  2. Use a neutral wrist. Do not bend the wrists to pull the rope; let the elbows create the movement.
  3. Control the eccentric. Lowering slowly helps maintain tension and reduces momentum.
  4. Choose an appropriate load. Reduce the weight if you cannot keep your torso still or control the full range.
