Cable Rope Preacher Curl Hammer

The cable rope hammer preacher curl is an isolation exercise performed on a preacher bench with a rope cable attachment and a neutral grip. It primarily trains the biceps and brachialis, with meaningful forearm involvement. The preacher support limits body swing and can help build controlled elbow-flexor strength and arm size.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up the cable: Position a rope attachment on a low cable pulley and place a preacher bench facing the pulley so the rope can travel smoothly.
  2. Take position: Sit or kneel securely behind the pad, place your upper arms flat against it, and grasp the rope ends with palms facing each other. Start with elbows nearly straight without locking them.
  3. Curl with control: Keep your upper arms planted on the pad and curl the rope toward your shoulders by bending the elbows. Keep the wrists neutral and squeeze the arm muscles briefly at the top.
  4. Lower slowly: Return the rope under control until the elbows are nearly straight. Do not let the weight stack slam, and repeat without lifting your upper arms from the pad.

Technique tips

  1. Use a manageable load: Choose resistance that lets you keep the upper arms in contact with the pad for every repetition.
  2. Keep a neutral wrist: Avoid bending the wrists back or curling them to move the weight.
  3. Protect the elbows: Use a smooth range of motion and avoid forcefully locking out at the bottom.
