Cable Rotational Crunch Kneeling

The kneeling cable rotational crunch is a loaded trunk-flexion and rotation exercise performed from a kneeling position using a high cable. It primarily trains the obliques and rectus abdominis while teaching controlled torso movement. It can support abdominal strength, rotational control, and core-focused resistance training.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set the cable high and attach a rope or handle. Choose a light load that allows smooth torso control.
  2. Kneel side-on to the cable with your knees hip-width apart. Hold the attachment with both hands beside the side of your head nearest the cable.
  3. Brace your trunk by gently tightening your abdomen, keeping your hips stacked over your knees and your spine long.
  4. Crunch and rotate your rib cage down and toward the knee farther from the cable. Let the torso move while the hips remain mostly still.
  5. Return slowly to the tall kneeling start under control, then complete the repetitions before switching sides.

Technique tips

  1. Use a modest load. Rotation should come from the trunk, not from pulling hard with the arms.
  2. Keep the hips quiet. Avoid sitting back, twisting the pelvis, or shifting from knee to knee.
  3. Exhale during the crunch and inhale as you return without letting the weight stack pull you upright.
  4. Stay pain-free. Use a smaller range of motion or reduce the load if rotation causes discomfort.
