Hack Squat Machine Calf Raise

The hack squat machine calf raise is a machine-based ankle extension exercise performed from the hack squat machine position. It primarily trains the calves, especially the gastrocnemius, while the soleus also contributes. It supports calf strength and controlled ankle movement under resistance.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set the hack squat machine safely and stand on the foot platform with the balls of your feet supported and your heels free to move.
  2. Place your shoulders under the pads, brace your torso against the back pad, and release the safety handles according to the machine design.
  3. Keep your knees nearly straight and lower your heels in a controlled manner until you feel a comfortable calf stretch.
  4. Press through the balls of your feet to raise your heels as high as you can without shifting your body position.
  5. Pause briefly at the top, then lower under control and re-engage the safety handles before leaving the machine.

Technique tips

  1. Use a range of motion you can control; do not bounce out of the bottom position.
  2. Keep pressure balanced through both forefeet and avoid rolling onto the outer edges of your feet.
  3. Choose a resistance that lets you keep your knees steady and your heels moving smoothly.
  4. Check that the machine safety stops are set appropriately before beginning.
