Macebell 360

The Macebell 360 is a circular swing performed with a weighted macebell around the head and back to the front. It primarily develops the shoulders, forearms, grip, and core control while training coordinated shoulder mobility. It can support upper-body strength, shoulder resilience, and movement control when performed with a manageable load.

Instructions

  1. Choose a light macebell and stand tall with feet about shoulder-width apart, keeping your ribs stacked over your pelvis.
  2. Grip the handle with both hands, with the upper hand near the mace head and the lower hand near the end of the handle; begin with the macebell upright in front of your chest.
  3. Guide the mace to one side and let the head travel behind your head in a smooth arc while keeping your elbows bent and close to your body.
  4. Control the path behind your head without shrugging or arching your lower back, keeping your core braced and your head neutral.
  5. Pull the macebell back to the front using your hands, shoulders, and upper back, returning to the upright starting position before repeating in the same controlled direction.

Technique tips

  1. Start lighter than expected. The offset weight creates leverage, so technique should remain smooth at every point of the circle.
  2. Keep the elbows close. Letting them flare widely can make the path harder to control and place unnecessary stress on the shoulders.
  3. Brace before the swing. Avoid turning the movement into a lower-back arch; keep the torso stable as the mace moves.
  4. Use a clear space. Ensure there is room around and behind your head, and stop if you cannot control the macebell's path.
