Machine Reverse Lat Pulldown Close Grip

The close-grip reverse-grip machine lat pulldown is a vertical pulling exercise performed on a lat pulldown machine with an underhand, narrow grip. It primarily trains the latissimus dorsi and also works the biceps, supporting upper-back strength and pulling development.

Instructions

  1. Set the seat and thigh pad so your thighs are firmly held down and the bar can be reached without standing on the seat.
  2. Grip the bar narrowly from underneath, with palms facing you, then sit tall with feet planted and your chest lifted.
  3. Pull the bar down toward your upper chest by driving your elbows down and back; keep your torso nearly upright and shoulders away from your ears.
  4. Return slowly until your arms are long and your shoulders are controlled overhead, then repeat without letting the weight stack slam.

Technique tips

  1. Use a controlled load: choose resistance that lets you keep your torso steady rather than leaning far back.
  2. Lead with the elbows: think of bringing your elbows toward your sides instead of pulling only with your hands.
  3. Keep the wrists neutral: avoid sharply bending them back in the underhand grip, and reduce the load if the grip becomes uncomfortable.
