Rocket Jump

The rocket jump is a bodyweight plyometric exercise that combines a shallow squat with an explosive vertical jump and an overhead arm reach. It primarily trains the quadriceps and glutes while also challenging the calves, core control, coordination, and lower-body power. It can support jumping ability and general athletic conditioning.

Instructions

  1. Stand tall with your feet about hip-width apart, arms relaxed by your sides, and your gaze forward.
  2. Brace your abdomen and lower into a shallow squat by bending your hips and knees; keep your chest lifted and your knees tracking over your toes.
  3. Drive through the floor to jump straight upward, extending your hips, knees, and ankles while swinging both arms overhead.
  4. Land softly on the balls of your feet, then lower your heels with knees and hips bent to absorb the impact.
  5. Regain a stable position before repeating. Keep each jump controlled and stop if you cannot land quietly and balanced.

Technique tips

  1. Prioritize the landing: land quietly with soft knees rather than trying to jump as high as possible.
  2. Keep your knees aligned with your toes; do not let them collapse inward during takeoff or landing.
  3. Use a firm, non-slip surface and leave enough clear space above and around you.
