Decline Bench Rotational Sit-Up

The decline bench rotational sit-up is an abdominal exercise performed on a declined bench while rotating the torso as you sit up. It primarily trains the obliques and rectus abdominis, supporting core strength and rotational control.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up the bench: Adjust the decline bench to a manageable angle and secure your feet under the pads.
  2. Start in position: Lie back with your knees bent, hands lightly beside your head or crossed over your chest, and brace your abdomen.
  3. Rise and rotate: Exhale as you curl your torso upward and rotate through the ribs toward one side; keep the movement controlled.
  4. Lower with control: Return to the starting position slowly without dropping your torso onto the bench.
  5. Alternate sides: Repeat the next repetition with a rotation to the opposite side, keeping your feet secured and your lower back comfortable.

Technique tips

  1. Lead with your ribs: Rotate the torso rather than pulling the head with your hands.
  2. Use a controlled range: Choose a bench angle and range of motion that let you keep the lower back comfortable.
  3. Avoid momentum: Move steadily and do not swing or bounce out of the bottom position.
