Decline Bench Weighted Twist

The decline bench weighted twist is a seated abdominal rotation performed on a decline bench while holding a weight plate. It primarily trains the obliques and other abdominal muscles through controlled trunk rotation. It can support core strength, rotational control, and abdominal muscular endurance.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set the bench: Secure your feet under the pads of a decline bench and sit back with your torso supported by the bench.
  2. Hold the load: Grip a light weight plate with both hands in front of your chest, keep your elbows softly bent, and brace your abdomen.
  3. Rotate with control: Turn your rib cage and shoulders to one side as far as you can without forcing the range or losing your stable position.
  4. Return and repeat: Rotate back through center, then turn to the other side. Move smoothly, keep the plate close to your body, and complete equal repetitions on both sides.

Technique tips

  1. Start light: Use a load that lets you control the full rotation without swinging or pulling with the arms.
  2. Brace first: Keep your abdomen engaged and avoid excessive arching through the lower back.
  3. Use a comfortable range: Do not force the twist; reduce the range or load if you cannot remain stable on the bench.
