Weighted Trunk Rotation

Weighted trunk rotation is a controlled rotational exercise performed while holding a weight close to the torso. It primarily trains the obliques and other abdominal muscles responsible for trunk rotation and bracing. It can support core strength, rotational control, and stability for everyday movement and sport.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Stand tall with your feet about hip-width apart and hold a weight plate with both hands close to your chest.
  2. Brace your abdomen, keep your chest lifted, and maintain a soft bend in the knees.
  3. Rotate slowly through your torso to one side while keeping the plate close and your hips mostly facing forward.
  4. Pause briefly without forcing the range of motion, then rotate under control to the other side.
  5. Continue evenly for the planned repetitions, keeping the movement smooth and your spine tall.

Technique tips

  1. Use a light load first. Choose a weight that lets you rotate slowly without swinging or leaning.
  2. Keep the pelvis quiet. Let the rib cage and torso rotate while avoiding excessive twisting through the lower back.
  3. Breathe steadily. Exhale during the rotation and stop if you feel sharp discomfort.
