Dumbbell Bicep Curl

The dumbbell bicep curl is an isolation exercise in which you bend the elbows to lift dumbbells toward the shoulders. It primarily trains the biceps, with the forearms assisting grip and elbow control. It supports upper-arm strength and muscle development.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Stand tall with a dumbbell in each hand, arms by your sides, palms facing forward, and feet about hip-width apart.
  2. Brace your torso and keep your chest lifted, shoulders relaxed, and elbows close to your ribs.
  3. Curl the dumbbells upward by bending only at the elbows until they are near shoulder height; keep your upper arms still.
  4. Lower slowly until your arms are nearly straight without forcefully locking the elbows, then repeat with control.

Technique tips

  1. Avoid swinging. Keep your torso still; reduce the load if you need to lean back or use momentum.
  2. Control both phases. Lift smoothly and use a slower, deliberate lowering phase.
  3. Keep wrists neutral. Do not bend them back or forward while gripping the dumbbells.
