Dumbbell Seated Wrist Curl

The dumbbell seated wrist curl is an isolation exercise performed seated with the forearm supported and the palm facing up. It primarily trains the forearm flexors and helps build wrist strength, grip support, and forearm muscular endurance.

Instructions

  1. Set up seated: Sit on a bench with your feet flat and hold one dumbbell in each hand with palms facing up.
  2. Support the forearms: Rest your forearms across your thighs, allowing your wrists and hands to extend just beyond your knees.
  3. Lower with control: Let the dumbbells roll toward your fingers as you bend the wrists down slowly, while keeping the forearms still.
  4. Curl the wrists up: Close your fingers around the handles and flex your wrists to raise the dumbbells as high as comfortably possible.
  5. Repeat smoothly: Pause briefly, then lower under control for the next repetition. Use a light load and stop if you feel sharp wrist pain.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the forearms fixed: Movement should come from the wrists, not from lifting the elbows or swinging the arms.
  2. Use a controlled range: Lower slowly and avoid forcing an extreme stretch at the bottom position.
  3. Choose modest resistance: Forearm muscles fatigue quickly; increase load only when every repetition remains smooth and pain-free.
  4. Breathe naturally: Exhale as you curl up and inhale as you lower the dumbbells.
