Kettlebell One-Arm Para Press

The kettlebell one-arm para press is a strict overhead press performed while seated on the floor with the legs extended. It primarily trains the shoulders and triceps while demanding trunk stability to keep the torso upright. It supports overhead pressing strength, shoulder control, and core stability.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up on the floor: Sit tall with both legs extended in front of you, slightly apart, and place a kettlebell beside your working side.
  2. Rack the kettlebell: Clean it carefully to the rack position, with the handle resting diagonally in the palm, wrist neutral, and elbow close to the ribs.
  3. Brace: Lengthen through the spine, tighten the abdomen, and keep both legs long and firmly in contact with the floor.
  4. Press overhead: Exhale and press the kettlebell smoothly upward until the elbow is straight and the weight is stacked over the shoulder. Do not lean back or twist.
  5. Lower with control: Inhale as you return the kettlebell to the rack position. Complete the repetitions, lower it safely to the floor, then repeat on the other side.

Technique tips

  1. Choose a manageable load: Start lighter than for a standing press because the seated position limits compensation through the legs.
  2. Keep the ribs down: Avoid flaring the ribs or arching the lower back to finish the press.
  3. Own the lockout: Pause briefly overhead with a straight elbow, neutral wrist, and shoulder controlled away from the ear.
