Pec Stretch

The pectoral stretch is a static stretch for the chest, commonly performed by placing one arm against a wall or door frame and gently turning the body away. It targets the pectoral muscles and may also stretch the front of the shoulder. It can support chest and shoulder mobility, especially after pressing-focused training or prolonged sitting.

Instructions

  1. Stand beside a wall or door frame with an upright posture and feet about hip-width apart.
  2. Place one forearm or palm against the surface with the arm slightly below or around shoulder height; keep the elbow softly bent.
  3. Gently turn your chest and body away from the planted arm until you feel a mild stretch across that side of the chest and front shoulder.
  4. Hold the position while breathing steadily; do not force the shoulder forward or shrug it toward the ear.
  5. Return slowly, then repeat on the other side for an even stretch.

Technique tips

  1. Use a gentle, comfortable stretch sensation rather than pain, tingling, or numbness.
  2. Keep your ribs from flaring excessively and avoid rotating through the low back to create more range.
  3. Adjust arm height slightly to find a comfortable position for your shoulder, and move slowly in and out of the stretch.
