Doorway Pec Stretch

The doorway pec stretch is a static chest stretch performed by placing an arm or forearm on a doorframe and gently turning the body away. It primarily lengthens the pectoral muscles and the front of the shoulders, while supporting upper-body mobility and posture awareness. It can be useful after chest-focused training or during general mobility work.

Instructions

  1. Stand beside an open doorway with one foot slightly in front of the other and your torso tall.
  2. Place one forearm on the doorframe with the elbow bent near 90 degrees and the upper arm roughly level with the shoulder.
  3. Gently turn your chest away from the supported arm or take a small step forward until you feel a mild stretch across the chest and front of the shoulder.
  4. Keep the shoulder down, ribs controlled, and neck relaxed; do not force the arm behind the body.
  5. Hold steadily while breathing slowly, then return gently and repeat on the other side.

Technique tips

  1. Use mild tension, not pain. Reduce the turn or step forward less if the shoulder feels pinched or painful.
  2. Keep your ribs down. Avoid arching the lower back to create extra range.
  3. Adjust arm height carefully. Keep the arm around shoulder height and use a comfortable position for your shoulders.
