Slow Jog

Slow jogging is a low-intensity running activity performed at a comfortable, sustainable pace. It primarily develops cardiovascular endurance while engaging the legs and glutes. It can support aerobic fitness, daily activity levels, and gradual running conditioning.

Instructions

  1. Warm up with a few minutes of easy walking and begin on a level, clear route.
  2. Stand tall with your head neutral, eyes looking ahead, shoulders relaxed, and chest comfortably open.
  3. Start jogging at a conversational pace; you should be able to speak in short sentences without straining.
  4. Use short, light steps and land quietly beneath or close to your body rather than reaching far forward with the feet.
  5. Let your arms swing naturally beside the body with elbows softly bent; avoid clenching the hands or raising the shoulders.
  6. Maintain a steady, relaxed rhythm and slow to a walk if your form deteriorates, you feel unwell, or you cannot control your breathing.
  7. Finish with several minutes of easy walking to gradually reduce your effort.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the effort easy. Use the talk test rather than trying to maintain a particular pace.
  2. Build gradually. Increase jogging time or distance in small steps, and use walk breaks when needed.
  3. Choose safe footing. Wear suitable running shoes and adjust your pace for uneven, slippery, dark, or congested routes.
  4. Stay relaxed. Avoid overstriding, pounding the ground, or holding tension in the jaw, hands, and shoulders.
