Stability Ball Wall Circles

Stability Ball Wall Circles are a shoulder-stability exercise performed by making controlled circles with a stability ball held against a wall. They primarily train the deltoids and the small stabilizing muscles around the shoulder while requiring trunk control. This exercise can support shoulder control, endurance, and preparation for pressing or overhead activities.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Stand facing a clear wall with your feet about hip-width apart and hold a stability ball against the wall at shoulder height with one hand.
  2. Keep the working arm almost straight, with a soft bend in the elbow, and set your shoulder away from your ear.
  3. Gently press the ball into the wall while keeping your ribs stacked over your pelvis and your torso still.
  4. Move the ball in small, controlled circles in one direction without shrugging or twisting your body.
  5. Complete the planned repetitions, reverse the circle direction, then repeat with the other arm.
  6. Stop or reduce the circle size if you feel sharp pain, loss of shoulder control, or neck tension.

Technique tips

  1. Use small circles first. A smaller range makes it easier to keep the shoulder stable and the torso quiet.
  2. Keep gentle, even pressure into the wall; do not let the ball slide or bounce.
  3. Breathe normally and avoid flaring the ribs or arching the lower back.
  4. Choose a ball size and wall height that allow the hand to begin near shoulder level without discomfort.
