Barbell Pin-Off Good Morning

The Barbell Pin-Off Good Morning is a hip-hinge exercise performed by lifting a barbell from safety pins in a rack with the bar positioned across the upper back. It primarily trains the hamstrings, glutes, and lower back while building posterior-chain strength and controlled hip-hinge mechanics.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set the pins in a power rack so the bar rests just below your standing start position, and load a manageable weight.
  2. Place the bar across your upper back, brace your abdomen, stand with feet about hip width, and lift the bar just clear of the pins.
  3. Soften your knees and push your hips backward while keeping your spine neutral and chest long.
  4. Lower under control until your torso reaches a comfortable position and the bar can return to the pins without rounding your back.
  5. Drive your hips forward and squeeze your glutes to stand tall, then lower the bar onto the pins with control.

Technique tips

  1. Use a light starting load; the pins do not replace controlled technique.
  2. Keep the bar stable over the midfoot and move from the hips rather than bending through the lower back.
  3. Stop the descent before your back rounds or hamstring tension causes you to lose position.
