Bench Leg Extended Stretch

The Bench Leg Extended Stretch is a static lower-body stretch performed with one heel supported on a bench and the leg straight. It primarily lengthens the hamstrings and can also gently stretch the calves. It supports hamstring flexibility and comfortable hip-hinge movement.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up a stable bench on a level surface and stand facing it.
  2. Place one heel on the bench with the working leg extended and the toes pointing upward or forward.
  3. Keep the supporting leg soft, square your hips toward the raised leg, and lengthen your spine.
  4. Hinge forward from the hips until you feel a mild stretch along the back of the raised thigh; keep the raised knee straight without forcing it.
  5. Hold and breathe steadily without bouncing, then return upright slowly and repeat on the other side.

Technique tips

  1. Use a low, secure bench so you can keep the pelvis level and the spine long.
  2. Seek mild tension, not pain; reduce the forward lean if you feel sharp discomfort or pulling around the knee.
  3. Do not round aggressively; initiate the movement by hinging at the hips rather than reaching with the shoulders.
  4. Hold still and breathe instead of bouncing into a deeper stretch.
