Cable Judo Flip

The Cable Judo Flip is a kneeling cable abdominal exercise performed with a high pulley and rope attachment. It trains the rectus abdominis through controlled trunk flexion while the hips and shoulders help stabilize the movement. It can support core strength and control for resistance training and athletic activities.

Instructions

  1. Set a rope attachment on a high cable pulley and select a light load that you can control without pulling your body off position.
  2. Kneel facing the machine, about an arm’s length from the pulley, and hold both ends of the rope beside or just behind your head. Keep your knees under your hips and brace your abdomen.
  3. Exhale and curl forward, bringing your rib cage toward your thighs while keeping the rope close to your head. Let your upper back round naturally, but do not pull the rope down mainly with your arms.
  4. Pause briefly in the contracted position, then inhale and return slowly until your torso is upright and the cable remains controlled. Repeat without swinging or jerking the stack.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the rope fixed relative to your head. The movement should come from curling the torso, not from extending and flexing the elbows.
  2. Use a manageable load. If your hips shift backward, your arms pull down, or the weight stack slams, reduce the load.
  3. Move smoothly with your breath. Exhale during the curl and return slowly without forcing an uncomfortable range of spinal flexion.
