Cable Seated Crunch

The cable seated crunch is a weighted abdominal exercise performed while seated at a cable machine. It primarily trains the rectus abdominis through controlled spinal flexion and can support core strength and abdominal muscle development.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set the cable to a high position and choose a light, controllable load. Sit facing away from the machine and hold the cable attachment securely near the sides of your head.
  2. Establish your position with feet planted, knees bent, and hips stable. Brace your abdomen, keep your chest lifted, and keep your neck neutral.
  3. Crunch forward by drawing your ribs toward your pelvis and rounding through the upper body. Keep the attachment position fixed; do not pull primarily with your arms.
  4. Return slowly to the upright starting position under control without letting the weight stack slam. Repeat for the planned repetitions.

Technique tips

  1. Move from the abs: think of closing the space between your ribs and pelvis rather than bending only at the hips.
  2. Keep the load controlled: use a weight that allows a slow return and no swinging or jerking.
  3. Protect your neck: keep your hands and the attachment near your head without pulling your head forward.
