Dumbbell Inner Bicep Curl

The dumbbell inner bicep curl is a standing single-joint curl performed with dumbbells and the elbows kept close to the torso. It primarily trains the biceps, with emphasis on the inner portion of the muscle, while the forearms assist with gripping and control. It supports arm-strength and muscle-building goals.

Instructions

  1. Stand tall with a dumbbell in each hand, feet about hip-width apart, arms at your sides, and palms facing forward.
  2. Set your posture by bracing your abdomen, keeping your chest lifted, and drawing your shoulders down and back.
  3. Curl both dumbbells toward the fronts of your shoulders by bending the elbows, keeping the upper arms still and close to your torso.
  4. Squeeze the biceps briefly at the top without allowing the elbows to drift forward or the wrists to bend back.
  5. Lower slowly until the arms are nearly straight, maintaining control and avoiding a hard lockout, then repeat.

Technique tips

  1. Use a controlled load. If you need to swing your torso or drive the weights with your hips, reduce the weight.
  2. Keep elbows anchored. Moving the elbows forward shifts work away from the intended biceps-focused curl.
  3. Control the lowering phase. Lowering steadily helps maintain tension and keeps the movement smooth.
  4. Breathe naturally. Exhale while curling and inhale as you lower the dumbbells.
