Dumbbell Standing Dublin Press

The Dumbbell Standing Dublin Press is a standing overhead pressing exercise performed with dumbbells and a controlled rotation from a neutral grip toward an overhead press position. It primarily trains the deltoids while also involving the triceps and upper chest. It supports shoulder strength, pressing control, and upper-body muscular development.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up: Stand tall with feet about hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height with palms facing each other.
  2. Brace: Tighten your abdomen, keep your ribs stacked over your pelvis, and keep your wrists straight.
  3. Press and rotate: Press both dumbbells upward in a smooth arc while rotating your palms gradually outward as the weights pass head level.
  4. Finish overhead: End with the dumbbells above your shoulders, arms nearly straight, and shoulders controlled rather than shrugged hard toward the ears.
  5. Return with control: Lower the dumbbells to shoulder height while reversing the rotation to a neutral grip. Keep your torso upright and repeat without using leg drive.

Technique tips

  1. Use a light, controllable load: The rotation should be smooth and pain-free; do not force the shoulders into range.
  2. Avoid leaning back: Keep your glutes and abdomen engaged so the lower back does not arch to finish the press.
  3. Control the descent: Lower at a steady pace instead of dropping the dumbbells into the bottom position.
  4. Keep elbows under control: Let them travel naturally beneath the dumbbells rather than flaring excessively to the sides.
