Stationary Bike

Stationary biking is a low-impact cardiovascular activity performed by pedaling on an indoor exercise bike. It primarily develops aerobic endurance and works the quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, and calves. It supports cardiovascular fitness, leg endurance, and calorie expenditure.

Instructions

  1. Adjust the bike so the saddle is roughly level with your hip; at the bottom of each pedal stroke, keep a slight bend in the knee.
  2. Set the handlebars to a comfortable height and sit tall with a neutral spine, relaxed shoulders, and hands resting lightly on the bars.
  3. Begin pedaling at an easy, smooth cadence. Keep your knees tracking in line with your feet rather than drifting inward or outward.
  4. Choose resistance that lets you pedal with control; increase it gradually only after you are warm and comfortable.
  5. Finish gradually by reducing resistance and pedaling easily for a few minutes before stepping off carefully.

Technique tips

  1. Keep your upper body relaxed. Avoid gripping the handlebars tightly or leaning heavily on them.
  2. Pedal smoothly. Use a resistance that lets you maintain controlled, even strokes rather than bouncing in the saddle.
  3. Build gradually. Increase duration, pace, or resistance in small steps and reduce effort if your form deteriorates.
